Everything changed during WWII. When the men went to war the women that were left behind wanted to do their part. So that meant that they stepped into the jobs that were traditionally for men. That was almost everything that wasn't a secretary or receptionist or a store clerk. Life still went on when the men went to war.

Since most of the men had been drafted into the war women were able to have professional baseball teams to alleviate the stress of the war. Many of the women they pulled to play in this baseball league had been playing amateur softball, so they used a softball instead of a baseball. they even underhand pitched until around 1950 when they switched over to overhand. When these women played, they had to play in skirts instead of baseball pants or shorts. The reason being the people who organized these teams wanted them to keep their femineity.

There were obviously a few issues with this women's league of baseball but here was a major one, Black women were not allowed to play. So instead, they joined the Negro league instead. There was only about 12 women that joined but nonetheless they were able to play some baseball.
